Black-coated Belgian Shepherd Dogs have been selectively bred in a kennel in the village of Groenendael, near Brussels, since 1893. This handsome variety is now extremely popular. Like most dogs used for work, the Belgian Sheepdog needs an owner who understands the importance of early socialization and exercises firm but kind control.
